This initiative, which allows the development of tools for the analysis of the caribou / reindeer genome, is made possible thanks to a partnership between a governmental agency and academia. The financial framework of the project arises from the needs of the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks of Quebec in terms of monitoring and protecting caribou populations on its territory. The tools developed are just as relevant for the other caribou populations throughout the North American continent and for reindeer populations in Europe and Asia.
This partnership is made possible thanks to the financial support of the granting agencies that are Génome Canada and Génome Québec. The tools are developed jointly by the staff of the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks and the team of university researchers.
